In February, I watched a collection of vintage Marimekko fabrics move from Art Mart to Furniture Lounge here in Champaign. I reached out to Furniture Lounge, and Christy was thrilled with the idea of the fabrics being stitched into something rather than sitting folded away in closets.

Since then, I’ve been figuring out what they want to become.

First, I developed new handwoven fabrics in India to complement the vintage prints. I then designed new skirts for these fabrics, which were stitched by my team in India.

Then I created a new pattern specifically for the Marimekko fabrics. The loose, boxy shape was designed to let the glorious scale of the vintage prints really shine. It can become a cropped jacket, duster, caftan, or mini dress—each one giving the print room to be the star.

The finished skirts are arriving soon, and I’m stitching each one-of-a-kind Marimekko piece myself.

As Found: Inherited Cloth & Craft is an intimate fashion show bringing it all together—a celebration of vintage cloth, heritage craft, women-owned businesses, and good ol' fashion fun.

The fashion show will run approximately 45 minutes, followed by an opportunity to shop the collection in the salon.
