My name, Emily Melissa, means Industrious Honeybee. I work and work and work. On my business, at motherhood, in friendships. But I don't work to prove myself in any way.
I am enough before I start my day and I remain enough, no matter what happens during my day.
If you are always trying to prove yourself, then you can't ever truly rest. But if you know that you know that you know that what you bring to the table is awesome, then rest becomes a natural part of the cycle of progress. You work, you rest, you feel at all times like you're moving forward, because at all times you exist in the mind space of "I am intrinsically awesome sauce".
After the busiest year yet of my business, I am thrilled with the personal development that's been going on. Had I not pushed myself to the edge of my capabilities, I could have continued to survive on my own reserves of determination. Because I was way stressed, I got to the place where I saw why I strive: because I don't feel I'm good enough. And then, I got to shine light on all that yuck inside and finally finally finally get it up and out of myself.
I've been wearing my cozy joggers for a couple of months now and can tell you that one of the best part of my evenings is running upstairs to slip into these as I am putting my day to bed. Lots of that has to do with them being sweatpants. But it's also an opportunity for me to DECLARE that my day was a success because I was in it. A bold statement that I couldn't have said 6 months ago.
If you are ready to rest -- like, the real kind; out of the sense that the work you're doing is enough because you're enough -- I invite you to slip into these cozies. We work hard because there's lots of work needing done. But we aren't proving we belong at the table. This mindset helps us truly rest. And especially at this time of year, when we're taking stock of our lives and progress, what a welcome relief knowing we can slip into our loungewear because whatever the scoreboard says, it doesn't change our worth or the value of our work.
