Any skirt looks good with heels...I want to make skirts that look good with flip flops!

I first styled this skirt with boots and a leather shirt, but then imagined you headed to the farmers market with no makeup, and giant sunglasses, and reached for my favorite tee and flip flops. EUREKA. That’s when I got excited.

⚡️⚡️⚡️Any skirt looks good with heeled boots. I want to make the skirts that look good (NAY, BETTER) with flip flops and tennis shoes! ⚡️⚡️⚡️I want to make the skirts that style themselves! ⚡️⚡️⚡️That go with a ton! ⚡️⚡️⚡️That are easy to...

Amazon Prime and Life

This stunning fair-trade-handwoven-from-recycled-fibers-fabric is traveling by boat from Bangladesh as we speak, and because of that, has been delayed a month.

Last week, when I found this out, I took it in stride. It wasn’t until a couple of days later when my machine and iron broke and some other things piled up, that I collapsed under the weight of... you know what? I think I collapsed under the weight of my own rigid expectations.

Looking back, I see that because this fabric was...

My inspiration behind these designs...

The past 2 months, I’ve been running towards the goal of listing skirts online.

It was a massive undertaking with tears and joy, but more than both: a LOT of hard work.

Why? Why do I push so hard and care so much? It’s not because I want you to buy my designs and prove I’m a good designer.

I see my designs as the means to an end.

And what’s the end? Transformation in your life. I believe we settle into habits that end up defining us. What we wear affects how...

What I'm Up To Today

What I'm Up To Today

Headed to NYC for spring break with my daughter, and to stock up on fabrics and notions. Any requests??? . I moved to NYC after college, having won an internship with @amsale . I started my business there and sold things like this maxi skirt. . I had my daughter there. And spent the first 4 years of her life pushing a stroller and then riding scooters to neighborhood parks and the grocery store. . I’m really thankful for my backyard in Illinois. And really thankful for my NYC memories. . . #MrsEmilyFashionAdvocate #DebunkingTheFashionMyth

What I'm Up To Today

You know what takes guts? Putting out work that is ‘just ok’. And yet that’s the only way to get to the point where you’re putting out work that’s great. . I spent the weekend in tears because of some parts of my new store in St. Louis that are turning out not quite perfect. . Generally, the way to do a new thing right, is to first do it wrong. That’s been my journey the last 3 years trying to sell fashion. Every step I take is the wrong one, and also, leads to the right one. That takes guts. . I just got off the phone with The Amy that #theAMYskort is named after all her words were right, but hard to hear. . The gist of which was: “sometimes it doesn’t work out”. . There were also a lot of: ‘don’t you dare quit’s’ and ‘you’re so close’. . And then the kicker: “don’t overextend yourself if it’s unhealthy for you or your family.” . So Happy Monday - the punches to the gut mean we’re going in the right direction. We don’t want to be comfortable, because then maybe we aren’t making any progress. . . #MrsEmilyFashionAdvocate #DebunkingTheFashionMyth
