After a wearying January of closed doors, I'm wrapping up my month-end-review and my studio is full of new life (and sunshine) and I find I'm cautiously optimistic. Because, I've been led to some yesses, by way of the no's. I turned my attention to my caps this month. I opened a wholesale account with my favorite hat manufacturer, I ordered lots of new blanks, I spent several hours wandering bead aisles and collecting bits of lovely.

A full length mirror is your best friend. It will always tell the truth.
If you don't have one, you should get one! And here are some tips for when you do:
- Hang your mirror on the wall. If it's sitting on the floor leaning on the wall, then your reflection is going to be big-footed and small-headed.
- Hang your mirror in good lighting. Because dark corners lie, but daylight does not.
- You can find cheap full length mirrors at target and other big box stores, especially around back to school...
It's always my goal to balance being a mom with being a designer. And they do go hand in hand for sure. Olive has a really great eye for bead-placement-on-caps. She actually designed these two:
The red one: I was planning on randomly placing all the beads but she started lining them up. What a great idea, kid!
The white one: This one was never finished, but it was for Christmas, and she put all the beads in a shape of a tree. Brilliant!

So here's the thing. When you (successfully) mix color and pattern into your outfit, you up the fashion-able-ness and cool-factor of said outfit. But it's pretty hard to mix color and pattern well. There's big reward if you get it right and big risk along the way (when you're wrong with cheetah print and bright florals, you're really wrong).
