What are your non-negotiables?

As I think towards summer, I'm listing my non-negotiables and building a wardrobe around them.

  1. Bike Rides.
  2. Ice Cream.
  3. Gardening.
  4. Pooltime.
  5. Being outside lots.

One night this week, after dinner, my husband and daughter and I hopped on our bikes and rode to the local ice creamery, because amazingly, our house is in bike-riding distance from said creamery. And the skirt/tee/shoe/braid combo I had worn to the grocery store and working, made the transition effortlessly.

And it got me thinking. I want clothing that encourages me to do the activities I want to do. Because if I had to change my clothes to take my bike ride, then maybe I wouldn't have gone. It would have been that one more thing, you know?

So, here are my favorite new pieces for Spring/Summer. I bought them with my wardrobe budget. More on that here.

Get hype y'all, it's a SKORT. Yup. It has full bike shorts underneath, and the fabric is super lightweight and breathable because it's technically for tennis or golf or something... You can find it here.

See how cute it is in my garden, checking out my baby dahlias? It hits above my knee which might be a tad short for daily use but because there are shorts under it - it's PERFECT.

Then there's this skirt from Target. It hits right below the knees (bike ride appropriate), it's washable, cotton, and has pockets. (I didn't end up getting the shirt, but yes it was cute!)

And then, this blue dress. Ok, maybe it's not quite bike-ride appropriate. But it does go with my tennis shoes so it'll be perfect for park dates with my daughter.

What are your non-negotiables this summer? It's an easy way to narrow down your options as you're shopping. Think where and how often you'd wear something. Things you'd wear more often, spend more on! Things that you'd get one or two wears out of - leave them at the store! Even if they're on clearance! The result will be a small collection of really usable pieces. Which means less time doing laundry, less time picking daily outfits, and MORE time enjoying summer breezes.

XO,
Emily
